Breaking my own rules

Recently when talking about this blog, I've said, "Well, I post anything that is basically not smudged!". So, today I'm breaking that rule! There is something about watercolour accidents...they are just compelling, especially watching them as they happen! Here's some smudges I like!

Black India Ink

I'm going through a big experimenting phase at the moment - just trying out new materials. Last week I picked up some ink and have been trying out different kinds of things with it.

I used a drawing I did at my life drawing class for one of them:

Watercolours and I. We are trying to make friends.

I've never learnt to use watercolours properly so I have had to just make up my own way of using them. Maybe that's what everyone does? I have somehow ended up with a lot of yellow in the paintings I have done. I'm not sure if that's because my new flat has yellow walls (see below!) or because I have very cheap watercolours and the yellow seems to have the nicest pigment! It's all a bit of an experiment but it's a strangely addictive thing to do. I now have a big pile of them - here's a few of them..
